Charles “Chuck” James Thompson was 72 years young.
On Sept. 19, 2023, Chuck completed his mission in life to be the best Dad, Papa Chuck, love to Annette — and quite possibly the founding father of Dad jokes.
Chuck was raised in Jackson, Michigan and attended Jackson High. As a member of the LDS Church he followed his faith to Rick’s College in Rexburg, Idaho, where he met and married Virginia. After living in Las Vegas briefly, they moved to Southern Utah where they started their family, or his baseball team.
Chuck is survived by his love, Annette Odegard and his eight children, Shale Thompson of St. George, Utah, Gabriel Thompson of St. George, Abram Thompson of St. George, Cinnamon Kreeb of St. George, Ginger Alonso of Las Vegas, Nev., Summer Hansen of St. George, Sage Thompson of St. George and Lacey Hansen of St. George. His 26 grandchildren and great-grandson, Cal, were well loved by him and knew it. He is also survived by his sister, Maryann Purves, Doris Kirk and brother, Randy King.
Chuck loved The Chicago Cubs, Detroit Tigers, The University of Michigan, his guns, America, Dad jokes, working on his cars, building things with his hands and ice cream. Every year he looked forward to The Little League World Series.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 27 from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life at 2 p.m. at Pine View Mortuary, 566 North Mall Drive, St. George, Utah.
A luncheon will follow at 3:30 p.m. at The LDS church located at 259 N. Mall Dr, St. George.
Internment services will be held privately on a later date with Chuck’s surviving loved ones. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the following causes that Chuck believed in.
