ST. GEORGE — An equipment malfunction has triggered an interruption of water service to residences in the Cedar Point area, according to an alert posted on Apple Valley’s social media page.

The information posted on the town of Apple Valley’s Facebook page shortly after 10 p.m. on Wednesday stated all three pumps that feed the million-gallon water tank are operating, and yet the tank is empty.

Crews have been called out from Southwest Pump and are working to identify the source of the problem and repairs will be underway, the post states, adding that the city will provide any updates on the situation as the information becomes available.

A message sent Thursday morning to St. George News from a reader, who asked to remain anonymous, indicated there are several wells and springs in the Apple Valley area that have gone dry, and citizens are running out of water.

According to the minutes taken during a special Apple Valley Town Council meeting held July 12, during a discussion between Town Council members and the water district, Apple Valley Mayor Frank Lindhardt described the water district issues as “significant” and go back a long time.

He said the only reason Apple Valley had any water at all was due to the ongoing efforts of the board members. Testing that should have been conducted on various wells in the area was not done, and the wells needed to be tested soon, he added.

Lindhardt closed by saying that the problems need to be resolved. Otherwise, he said, “We are not far away from delivering water or could with just a few things going wrong, then we have lots of trouble. We have got to stop that.”

St. George News reached out to the town of Apple Valley and the town’s Planning Commission for comment but had yet to hear back at the time of this report.
