ST. GEORGE — An incident captured on video during the Region 9 girls soccer match between Desert Hills and Snow Canyon on Sept. 12 has caused quite a reaction on social media.

The game was a tightly competitive, highly emotional contest between rivals that ended in a 5-4 overtime victory for the home team, Snow Canyon.

Videos were sent to St. George News and other news outlets that appear to show Snow Canyon head coach Conner Brown making physical contact with a Desert Hills player during a play that went out of bounds in front of the Snow Canyon bench.

Some of the clips submitted by readers of St. George News are in the video above.

When St. George News covered the Sept. 14 game at Snow Canyon versus Dixie, Brown was not on the sideline.

Assistant coach Ryan Losee, who directed the Warriors in a 2-1 win over the Flyers, told St. George News that Brown was “unable to make it.”

St. George News attempted to follow up and speak with Snow Canyon Principal Kim Monkres but was directed to  Washington County School District Director of Communications Steve Dunham.

He confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that Brown is still the head coach of the girls soccer team at Snow Canyon. He could not comment on whether Brown had been suspended for the Sept. 14 game.

He did, however, issue a statement when asked by St. George News whether measures have been taken to address this situation.

“We looked at every video we could from every angle so we could understand completely what transpired in the collision between coach and player,” Dunham said. “Based upon all of those videos we feel we’ve taken appropriate action.”

Brown was on the sideline for Snow Canyon’s match at Crimson Cliffs Tuesday night in Washington Fields.

Asked to comment on his absence from the Sept. 14 game, Brown told St. George News to refer all questions about that to Dunham.
