Max Dixon Lunt

Dec. 11, 1944-July 24, 2023

Max Dixon Lunt left this earth on “joyful wings” on July 24, 2023.

Max was the second child born to parents Max Naegle Lunt and Kathryn Dixon Lunt on Dec. 11, 1944, in Cedar City Utah.

Due to his father’s career with Chrysler Corporation, Max lived in numerous cities across the U.S.

Despite never attending the same school for two years in a row, Max excelled at and enjoyed wrestling, playing football, baseball and his favorite sport, hockey.

Max earned degrees from Western Georgia College, the U.S. Marine Corps Institute, National Defense University and a master’s degree from Pepperdine University. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 23 ½ years, retiring in 1991 as a lieutenant colonel.

After moving to St. George, Utah, to be nearer to his sister Rebecca Jones, Max met and married the love of his life, Brenda Marné Osborne in the St. George Temple on July 9, 2014. They loved to travel together, eat at their favorite restaurants and watch his beloved Georgia Bulldogs, Detroit Red Wings and Gonzaga Bulldogs on TV. Max gained an instant family of five children, 18 grandchildren and five additional siblings when he married Brenda. Upon hearing of his death, his youngest granddaughter sobbed and said, “I feel like I still need him.” We all do.

Max is survived by his wife Brenda, their children and grandchildren (as he always referred to them), his sister Rebecca (Warren) Jones and their four sons (whom he loved as his own) and their families.

Thank you to our friends and our ward family – you have been a precious blessing to us, and Max often expressed how he loved being a part of it.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 5, at 10 a.m. at Pine View Mortuary, 566 North Mall Drive, St. George, Utah. Interment to follow at the Tonaquint Cremation Gardens, 1777 S Dixie Drive, St. George.

Arrangements are under the care of Pine View Mortuary, 435-986-4222. Visit the Pine View Mortuary website for full obituary and funeral service listing.
