Marvin Randall Johnson

June 14, 1956-July 14, 2023

Marvin Randall Johnson, age 67, our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend, was called to his heavenly home July 14, 2023, surrounded by loved ones. He was born to Maurice and Mary Jean Johnson June 14, 1956, in Provo, Utah. As a child, Marvin enjoyed playing baseball, digging forts and playing night games with his friends. In the summer, his family would travel cross country in a truck camper. He talked of going to the World’s Fair as well as many fun experiences with his two sisters Maren and Marili.

After graduating from Brighton High School in 1974, he attended two quarters at Snow College before being called to the Oklahoma Tulsa mission for the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As an adult, he enjoyed playing in softball leagues and golfing with his buddies.

Marvin married Susan Haueter Sept. 22, 1977. Together they had four children __ Cory, Mandee, Mallory, and Devin. They later divorced.

On June 12, 1993, Marvin married the love of his life Janice (Wiser) Gentry who also had four children — Kerry, Kristelle, Blaine and Jared. Bigger than the Brady Bunch, Marv and Janice strived to create a loving, Christ-centered home.

Marv was a carpet installer by trade. He described his career as “wall to wall and fuzzy side up,” and if you asked the color of carpet he would say “brown.” Through this line of work, he created many lasting friendships. Diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in 2002, it then became very difficult to continue installing. He then moved to manage flooring installations at VanBrocklyn Design and GS distributing until he and Janice purchased St George Alphagraphics printing solutions in 2008. Marv pushed through debilitating pain, joint degeneration, multiple joint surgeries and many episodes of sepsis, without one complaint but a smile on his face to lift others.

While his family was always a top priority, he was dedicated to serving the Lord throughout his life. He served in numerous leadership positions including scoutmaster, Young Men’s, Elders quorum, Bishopric counselor and high council, always living and preaching the gospel as a disciple of Jesus Christ.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents Maurice and Mary Jean Johnson, brother-in-law Win Zimmerman, grandniece Aliya Haslem and nephew Brock Cottle.

He is survived by his wife Janice Johnson; children Cory Johnson (Oakley), Mandee Day (Brian), Mallory Johnson (Rasheeda), Devin Johnson (Stephanie), Kerry Wiser, Kristelle Wilkins (Luke), Blaine Gentry (Jenna) and Jared Gentry; his sisters Maren Zimmerman and Marili Potts (Douglas); 10 grandchildren Jaycee and Preslee Day, Kennedy and Acadia Wilkins, Charlotte and Owen Johnson, Boston, Granger, Lemon and Graham Gentry. Marv recently received news of three grandchildren on the way. He also has a host of nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews whom he has touched with his smile, friendship and love. His family is the joy of his life.

The family expresses a heartfelt thank you to all of Marv’s dear friends who came to share their love at the hospital and at home. Thank you to Applegate Home Care and Hospice for the much-needed support and tender care Marv received while at home with his family.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 19, at 10 a.m. Friends may call Wednesday prior to services from 8:30-9:45 a.m., 2434 Riverside Drive Chapel, St George.

Interment immediately following service at Tonaquint Cemetery in St George.

Condolences may be shared on the McMillan Mortuary website.
