St. George Fire Capt. Tyler Talbot told St. George News they were paged just before 6:00 a.m. to a mobile home exterior fire on Dixie Downs Road.

When crews arrived on the scene, they witnessed flames coming from the back corner of the structure.

Crews attacked the fire outside, then went inside the home to investigate the fire’s extension and further damage.

“Everybody was OK as far as getting out of the home and pets were OK, so in the end, not too bad,” Talbot said.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and currently under investigation. Talbot said, while the homeowners are temporarily displaced, they should be able to repair the damages. Red Cross is involved and helping the family find a place to stay.

Going into the Forth of July Holiday, Talbot said to use precautionary measures with fireworks to avoid causing fires. Each year, the department commonly responds to structure fires that occur from improper firework disposal.

When fireworks are placed in trash cans on the side of a home, it’s easy for the trash to ignite, which can lead to a house fire.

“Be careful with the disposal and lighting them off,” Talbot said about fireworks. “Make sure you’re shooting them in regulated areas and then dispose of them properly. Put them in a bucket of water and help us ensure we don’t have more incidences this week with the big holiday.”

This report is based on statements from first responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
