Jimmy A. Nay

Dec. 2, 1943-June 22,2023

Jimmy A. Nay of Mesquite, Nevada, passed away June 22, 2023, at St. George Reginal Hospital. He was born Dec. 2, 1943, in Willits, California, to Morris and Ruth (Sorensen) Nay. In 1994, he married the love of his life JoAnn Syme in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Jimmy was raised in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. He had many fond memories of working on the farm with his grandfather, Olof and uncles. At age 14, his grandfather passed away, and dad got busy helping Grandma Dena tend to the 1,000 laying hens that supplied Mt. Pleasant schools, hospital and families with eggs.

He joined the Air Force right out of high school and spent four years at many military bases. He always said he flew more miles than he could ever drive. After the Air Force, he went to school for a few years and was a diesel mechanic and autobody specialist. He ran many businesses that he owned; Nay’s Autobody, a radiator shop, towing company, Nay’s Drilling, and even sold cars and scrap metal.

After his first child was born, he went to work at Deer Creek Mine. He retired from there after 20 years of service.

Jimmy loved his family, fishing, camping, boating, hiking, 4-wheeling and gardening. He loved working on trailers, boats, and vehicles. He always had a project going.

Jimmy was always so loving, patient and kind. He was a great example and always brought out the best in everyone. To know him was to love him. He will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his wife JoAnn, children Laurie (Stephen) Moser, Jamie Bruno, Brooke and Cody Nay, and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and brother Dennis Nay.

A celebration of life will be held in his honor, where family and friends can come to share their favorite memories and reminisce, on Tuesday, July 4, from 2-5 p.m., at the old family home at 700 S. 100 E. Mt. Pleasant, Utah.

Arrangements are under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S Bluff St., St. George, 435-673-2454. Family and friends are invited to sign Jimmy’s online guest book.
