ST. GEORGE — Lexi Brown has been named the new head coach of the Utah Tech women’s soccer program, Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Ken Beazer announced Monday.
“We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Lexi Brown as our new head women’s soccer coach and welcome her and her family to Utah Tech University,” Beazer said in a news release. “Lexi brings a proven track record of NCAA Division I success and embodies a passion for developing student-athletes.”
Brown comes to St. George after spending the last five seasons as an assistant women’s soccer coach at Gonzaga University, also serving as the program’s recruiting coordinator.
“I am elated at the opportunity to represent Utah Tech University as their head women’s soccer coach,” Brown said in the news release. “This is the perfect opportunity for me and my family and we are thrilled to be a part of the Trailblazer family.
“I want to thank Ken Beazer for his investment in this program and for presenting me with this incredible opportunity. The future is bright for Utah Tech University and the women’s soccer program, and I can’t wait to begin this journey of working with such an incredible group of student-athletes.”
Brown inherits a Trailblazer program that finished 10-7-2 overall and 6-3-2 in the Western Athletic Conference in 2022.
Brown joined the staff at Gonzaga ahead of the 2018 season and was part of some of the most successful years in program history. In her first season, she helped a squad that set single-season program records in goals scored, assists, points and shots. The team posted its third consecutive double-digit victory season in her second year, tying the program record with 12 wins while earning votes in the national polls.
In the 2020-21 season, the Bulldog coaching staff was named the West Region Staff of the Year by the United Soccer Coaches College Services, and this paved the way for a historic year in the fall of 2022, when the program re-set several program records. With a 15-5 record, Gonzaga set new program-best marks for goals (47), assists (39), total points (131), total shots (387) and goals per game (2.35) while being ranked as high as No. 16 in the nation.
Last season, Brown helped lead the Bulldog women’s soccer program to a 10-3-5 overall record, while leading the West Coast Conference in goals scored (37) and ranking third with just 0.95 goals allowed per game.
Prior to her time at Gonzaga, Brown spent two seasons on the women’s soccer coaching staff at her alma mater, Utah Valley University. In her first season as an assistant coach at Utah Valley in 2015, Brown helped the Wolverines to their most successful season in school history. The team won a school-record 14 matches, went unbeaten (9-0-1) at home, won the WAC Tournament championship and made its first-ever appearance at the NCAA Tournament.
UVU would win another 10 games during her second season on staff, including a 2-0 victory over New Mexico State in the first round of the WAC tournament.
“I want to express my gratitude for the past mentors and coaches who have prepared me for this next chapter of my life,” Brown said. “I have been fortunate to work with some of the best in the business and I’m looking forward to continuing to build this program using the tools and philosophies I have gathered in my time as an assistant.”
Prior to entering the coaching ranks, Brown spent four seasons playing for the Wolverines, registering seven goals and eight assists across a school-record 75 starts and 80 total appearances. A two-time all-conference honoree, she was named first-team all-WAC and the WAC’s Defensive Player of the Year after leading the Utah Valley defense to 13 wins and a school-record nine shutouts in her senior season.
With three academic all-conference honors, she graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and Outdoor Recreation in 2015.
