ST. GEORGE — Dixie Power Kite Festival has announced a donation of $70,000 to the Washington County School District Foundation to support literacy programs.
This donation was made possible by the success of the Kite Festival event held in St. George on April 1, which saw tens of thousands of participants enjoying a day filled with entertainment and free incentives for reading.
The festival, which has been held for 24 years, is a family-oriented event that promotes literacy and education by encouraging children in elementary school to read. The event was made possible by support from various business community sponsors, including the festival’s title sponsor, Dixie Power, and presenting sponsor, Nets on Fire.
During this year’s event, children participated in the reading challenge, receiving rewards for completing the challenges, including a kite, a book or $10’s worth of tickets to the event’s bounce houses. Each child also left the festival with coupons for a free Bahama Buck’s Sno and a free training session at Nets on Fire.
Representatives from Dixie Power Kite Festival presented a $70,000 check to the Washington County School District Foundation on May 9 to support literacy programs throughout the county.
“The festival would like to thank the many community sponsors who made this event possible and helped raise a significant amount to support literacy programs in Washington County schools,” Dixie Power said in a press release.
