WASHINGTON CITY — Marines from Utah Dixie Detachment 1270 led the  Washington City Cotton Days parade last Saturday. A six-man color guard was provided with one Marine serving as a drummer to keep the cadence.

The parade is an annual event held during the city’s recognition of its pioneer past. The Marines have helped with a color guard to lead off the parade for many years. In recent years they wanted others to have a chance to lead, but this year they requested that the Detachment head the parade again, according to a news release from the Detachment.

The Marines who made up the color guard included Billion Johnston, Bryan  Butas, Henry Franz, Lee Deuel, Kenneth Dishman and Gerald Harris.

Washington City citizens who lined the parade route proved to be very patriotic, saluting with their hands over their hearts as the colors passed by and helping youngsters salute as well.

Utah Dixie Detachment 1270 Marine Corps League is a service organization of former active duty Marines and Corpsmen who continue their service by supporting public functions, flag raising, Toys For Tots and military honors for veterans who pass.

And they sometimes lead parades.
