Red Rock Rotary Club completes annual fundraiser

ST. GEORGE – That first, friendly, smiling face you saw as you entered the Washington County Fairgrounds, on the weekend of August 12-15, was likely a member of the Red Rock Rotary Club of St. George doing what they do best; raising money in their major annual service project and fundraising activity – parking cars for the Washington County Fair.

A final tally of funds raised from their portion of the parking fee has been determined to be more than $11,500. These funds will help support club operations for the year and provide community grants to a number of local charitable organizations serving children and youth in Washington County. Local nonprofits will be notified and the foundation will begin accepting grant applications in November with funds awarded in January.

Since 2007, the not-for-profit 501c3 Red Rock Rotary Foundation has awarded over $50,000 in grants to approximately 25 local organizations, with proceeds from fair parking as the major source of income for the foundation.

Special thanks to the Washington County Fair Board, the Washington County Sheriff’s Explorers, Dixie State University service clubs and Rotarians from St. George, Dixie Sunrise and Hurricane Valley Rotary Clubs who volunteered their time and energy to the success of the activity, despite triple digit summer temperatures at the appropriately named Purgatory Flat.

Red Rock Rotary Club meets for breakfast each Wednesday morning at 7:30 a.m. at the Best Western Abbey Inn, 1129 S. Bluff Street. Visitors are always welcome.
