Local Rotary clubs seek sunglasses, eyeglasses, computers for Mexico schools

ST. GEORGE – Members of Washington County’s five Rotary clubs are looking for gently used sunglasses, eyeglasses, computer terminals, monitors and mice for the residents and students in Puerto Penasco, Mexico.

Why sunglasses? Unprotected eyes regularly exposed to the sun’s UV rays may lead to cataracts which, in some cases, limit a person’s ability to work. Sunglasses can also reduce the risk of macular degeneration.

Computers, monitors and mice are also needed for students in Puerto Penasco schools where technology is lacking or nonexistent. All hard drives will be thoroughly cleared of any data before word processing software is downloaded.

Sunglasses and other eyeglasses can be dropped at the front desk of the Best Western Abbey Inn, 1129 S. Bluff Street.

Call 435-669-8020 for more information on donating computer equipment.

Rotary is an organization of approximately 1.2 million business, professional and community leaders in 34,000 Rotary clubs in 160 countries worldwide who provide humanitarian service, including the eradication of polio; encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.
