Dixie Garden Club hosts cactus and succulent tour

ST. GEORGE – The Dixie Garden Club will present “A Tour of a Cactus and Succulent Garden,” at their monthly meeting scheduled for Wednesdayat 1 p.m. at the Relief Society House, 100 W. Telegraph Street in Washington City.

The program will start with a meet and greet of the club’s two scholarship winners – Casey Banner and Kimberly Bowler. President Rhonda Bowcut will present the scholarship winners with their certificates along with their academic achievement award of $600 each. During the social, refreshments will be served. After the presentations, there will be a short business meeting.

The meeting continues with a tour of Robert Whiting’s garden of succulents and cactus. Although small it is chock full of many varieties of these easy to grow, easy to care for drought resistant plants. Whiting’s garden showcases many unusual and rare specimens and he has learned through trial and error which ones are suitable for this area. It promises to be an educational and enjoyable program for all gardening aficionados.

The Relief Society House is located approximately two blocks north of Star Nursery at the intersection of W. Telegraph Street and South 100 W. The facility is handicapped accessible. There is society house designated parking and also street parking on South 100 W.
