St. George Fire Department Battalion Chief Tyler Talbot said due to the quick response of Engines 26 and 29, the only reported damage was animal feed.

Emergency dispatchers received the call to a structure fire near the corner of 2240 East and 3670 South just before 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Talbot said the fire was extinguished by the responding fire crews within minutes, with no damages reported by firefighters or property owners and no animals harmed.

“Our first rig that is based out of Little Valley here was first to arrive,” Talbot said, pointing toward the back of the property.

“Stretched a hand line down there and found the hay inside the cargo container was on fire — so they attacked it,” Talbot added. “And then we spent the next long while pulling the bails out and overhauling it, making sure we didn’t have a problem later tonight.”

The cause of the fire is undetermined pending a complete investigation.

With high winds in the area during the time of the blaze, Talbot said the property damages were contained to the hay that was consumed by the fire and the metal storage container the feed was stored in.

This report is based on statements from court records, police or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
