PAROWAN — Residents of a small Southern Utah town have reported heavy police presence after a woman with critical injuries was transported from a Parowan home to the hospital, where she later died. However, police say the public is not in danger.
Law enforcement and medical personnel responded to a house at 488 W. Old Highway 91 on Saturday at approximately 6:47 a.m., where they found an unresponsive woman with “unknown injuries” in critical condition, according to a news release issued by the Parowan City Police Department. The woman was transported to the hospital, where she later died.
In an updated news release issued Tuesday, the department identified the woman as 62-year-old Robin Whittle.
“An investigation is ongoing as to the nature of the circumstances,” the release states. “Parowan City Police Department offers our sincere condolences and ask that the community respect the family’s privacy at this time.”
While there appears to be a heavy police presence at the site, Parowan City Police Chief Addison Adams told Cedar City News that’s not the case.
“There’s going to be an investigation that needs to be done there, but it can’t be done right this minute,” he explained. “So we’re just keeping it secure.”
The Iron County Sheriff’s Office is assisting the department, and their command post trailer parked on or near the property is being used to keep onsite personnel warm as they watch over the scene, Adams said.
While no other information is available for release at this time, Adams said they don’t believe the public is in any danger.
“If anyone is worried about that — the community is secure,” he said.
The department reaffirmed that there “is no reason to believe there is a threat to the general public” in the updated release. They also requested that anyone with information to assist their investigation call 435-586-9445.
