Shortly after 7:15 a.m., officers and emergency personnel responded to the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Westridge Drive on a two-vehicle crash in St. George. The crash involved a white Chevrolet Cruze and a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck that was initially reported as a head-on crash with possible injuries.

St. George Police Officer Tiffany Mitchell told St. George News the Chevrolet’s driver was transported to St. George Regional Hospital for evaluation and treatment.

At the time of the collision, the Chevrolet was heading west on Sunset Boulevard and merged into the turn lane to head north on Westridge Drive. As the Chevrolet pulled out into the intersection to turn left, Mitchell said it was struck by the eastbound Tacoma, which spun both vehicles around in the intersection.

Mitchell also said the Chevrolet driver told officers that he made the turn thinking he had the green arrow. He was cited for failing to obey a traffic signal.

Traffic was impacted minimally, due to the early hour, for approximately 45 minutes while wreckage and debris were cleared from the roadway.

While responders were still tending to the scene, the second crash was reported on River Road and St. James Place, where a gray Chevrolet Equinox was overturned on its side.

The incident occurred on the east side of St. James, near the island in the middle of the roadway. Mitchell said the driver told police his vehicle struck the high curb while exiting the subdivision, causing the vehicle to tip onto its side and injuring the driver.

The man was transported to the hospital, where Mitchell said officers followed up with him. He told police he was on medication and fell asleep just before rolling up on the curb. He was later arrested for suspected DUI, and the incident is still under investigation.

This report is based on statements from police, emergency personnel or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
