IVINS — The Kayenta Arts Foundation will host the 18th annual “Art in Kayenta” festival, a three-day event that runs Friday through Sunday.
Every fall for the past 18 years, thousands of people have been making their way to Art in Kayenta for many reasons.
For art lovers, it’s being able to wind their way through booth after booth and gallery after gallery of unique original art and wares.
For others, it’s relaxing in the beer and wine garden, sipping wine while savoring fresh food from local vendors; others opt for the tasty entrees Xetava Gardens Café serves up. But for many, it’s enough just to enjoy the gorgeous weather and stunning red-rock scenery.
This year’s Art in Kayenta festival is expected to draw the largest crowd to date, according to organizers.
Art in Kayenta offers creations from over 40 juried, regional and national artists who specialize in media ranging from sculpture to painting, jewelry to ceramics, wood to metal and more.
Each year, artists participate in a silent auction featuring their work. Festival attendees will have the exclusive opportunity to bid on selected art pieces.
The auction is hosted by the nonprofit Kayenta Arts Foundation, with proceeds benefiting the Center for the Arts at Kayenta theater, which opened in 2017.
During its first year, the center presented more than 50 events and workshops to residents of Southern Utah and surrounding communities.
The center is home to the Lorraine Boccardo Theatre, a 200-seat black box and concert stage, as well as spaces to accommodate meetings, receptions, seminars and rehearsals.
As a collaborative arts community venue, the center hosts a broad range of performing arts, plays, lectures, films, concerts, and educational opportunities for the Southern Utah area.
