Richard Grant Tubbs

April 4, 1930 — June 28, 2018

Our loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Richard Grant Tubbs, 88, passed away June 28, 2018, quickly through the door of mortality into a beautiful bright new world and into the loving arms of his heavenly parents. There, he was likewise joyfully embraced by his anxiously awaiting parents and first wife, Janice.

Our dear was born April 4, 1930, in Ogden, Utah, son of Henry T. Tubbs and Johanna Van Dyke. He was nurtured in a happy gospel-centered home where he learned faith and love for the Lord Jesus Christ.

Rich served his country in the U.S. Navy at the end of World War II, and after being released, he returned home to Roy, Utah, where he married his high school sweetheart, Janice Bell. Shortly afterward, he was recalled into the Navy on an aircraft carrier in the Korean War for the next two years.

He came home and decided to go into his own business. He built the Tubb Service Center, where he gave his children and many other children in Roy an opportunity to learn how to work and earn an honest living. He owned The Tubb Service Center until he retired in 1994.

After the death of his wife Janice, he later met, fell in love with and married Ireta Evans Burrows and had 30 wonderful years traveling, attending the temple, golfing and loving life to its fullest.

Rich was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Over his lifetime he served in numerous capacities faithfully: Elders Quorum presidency, High Priest leadership, bishopric, YM president and always a faithful home teacher.

He was always dedicated to his church and community. He served 12 years on the Roy City Council, and in 1987, he was honored as Roy’s outstanding citizen during its 50th anniversary.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; wife Janice; brothers Thurman (Tubby) and Durlin; and two sisters, Betty Sevy and Avon Bingham.

Rich is survived by his sweetheart Ireta; children Gean Biddle (Marion deceased), Russell (Connie), Joel (Marilyn) and Jed; and stepchildren Dan (deceased), Brett, Brian (Jennifer) Burrows and Christine; 22 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and brothers Roy and Ron Tubbs.
