Carol Jean Andreasen

July 27, 1930 — June 2, 2018

Carol Jean Andreasen, passed away peaceful at home, surrounded by her loving family on June 2, 2018. Carol was born July 27, 1930 ,in Burley, Idaho. She was the 10th of 11 children born to Andrew and Myrtle Andreasen.

Carol had many happy memories of her life on their farm just north of Shoshone, Idaho, where she grew up during the Great Depression and was taught the value of hard work. In high school her favorite pastimes were cheerleading, choir and drama, where she had the lead in the school musical.

She loved the school dances, and with her expert skills, she never lacked for a partner. After high school Carol studied at Albion Normal School, Boise Jr. College and Western Montana State College where she earned her bachelor’s degree in English and physical education.

In 1966 she began her teaching career in Williams, California, where she taught classes in English, P.E. and drama and was advisor for the Girls Athletic Association (G.A.A.) and Pep Club. Carol loved and excelled at teaching and always took a personal interest in her students.

Her five children were Carol’s greatest joy. On her own, she nurtured them in a loving home that was open to all family, friends, students and those who needed a listening ear.

Carol was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in various callings, including Relief Society president, Gospel Doctrine teacher and her favorite calling as Seminary teacher. In 1999 Carol and her husband, Jim, served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Arizona Fort Apache Mission, where she grew to love the people.

Carol retired to St. George where she was close to family and could enjoy the warmth and beauty of Southern Utah.

Carol is survived by four of her five children: Carrie McMahan, Boise, Idaho; Tammy (Dan) Skinner, St. George, Utah; Patrick (Paulene) Manning, Nenana, Alaska; and Tess (Rick) Boyle Doylestown, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by two siblings: Nathalie Davis, Bountiful, Utah, and Richard Andreasen, Shoshone, Idaho; 24 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. Carol is preceded in death by her parents; nine siblings: Lane, Randy, Grant, Helen, Donna, Bill, Joe and Doug; son Philip (Lisa) Manning; grandson Scott (LeAnn) McMahan; and granddaughter Elsie Harrell.
