Nettie McAllister Dodds McCall

Sept. 22, 1922 — Aug. 5, 2017

Nettie McAllister Dodds McCall died peacefully in her home in Washington, Utah, on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017. Born Sept. 22, 1922, she would have turned 95 in just a few weeks. She was born in Kanab and was the 13th child of Richard Samuel and Ida Young McAllister. Her dad nicknamed her “lucky number 13.”

Nettie met her husband Glynn Dodds of Panguitch while she was attending Dixie High School and Glynn was attending Dixie College in St. George. Both of their parents worked in the St. George Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at that time. They were married on Nov. 16, 1938, in the St. George Temple.

In 1954 Nettie decided to go back to school to become a nurse. Throughout her nursing career she took care of many people. Her patients gave her lots of positive feedback, saying that they felt safe when she was around. She was always dedicated to doing things right, so nursing was a good fit for her.

While in Utah, Nettie and Glynn lived in St. George, Salt Lake and Panguitch. They spent most of their married life in Long Beach, Perris, Hemet, Bellflower, Orangevale and Citrus Heights, California, where they raised their four boys and one girl. They also lived in Page and Joseph City, Arizona. In 1976, when it was time to retire, they came back to Dixie where they had started out nearly 40 years earlier.

Glynn died in Dec. 1991. In 1995 Nettie married William McCall. They enjoyed life together for about eight years. He died in April 2004.

Although she was committed to being an excellent nurse, her pride and joy were her children and grandchildren. She always attended every sporting event, play, recital or whatever her kids were involved with. She loved all of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren dearly.

Nettie was a faithful member of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all of her life. She has served in Relief Society, Young Womens and Primary and served as an ordinance worker in the St. George, Utah, Temple.

Nettie is survived by her children Larry Glynn (Fernanda) Dodds, Folsom, California; Donald George Dodds, Elk Grove, California; daughter-in-law Marcia Lauffer Dodds, Auburn, California; and Darla Kathleen (Matti) Helske, Washington, Utah. She is survived by grandchildren Donna (Jack) Johnson, Mark (Kelly) Dodds, Richard Dale Dodds, Mac (Tina) Dodds, Stephanie Dodds, Neil Dodds, Ali Dodds, Michael (Sini) Helske, Tim Helske, Paul Helske, Mark Helske and Sarah Helske. She has fourteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She is proceeded in death by her husband Glynn C. Dodds and her second husband William C. McCall. She had 13 siblings who proceeded her in death: Elma Miles, Beulah Frost, Luetta Hall, Bernell, John, Annie Heaton, Chester, Boyd, Eleanor Hall, Rue Heaton, Marcia Crawford, Lawrence and Mark. She was proceeded in death by her sons Dale Cecil Dodds, Orangevale, California; and Bruce Karl (Marcia) Dodds, Auburn, California; grandson Randall Wayne Dodds, Fair Oaks, California; and great-grandson Dustin Jacob Dodds, Roseville, California.
