Americana meets rock – and red rock – when Cracker comes to town

SPRINGDALE — Self-described “road dog band” Cracker will be making their first appearance in Southern Utah Saturday at the Bit and Spur Restaurant and Saloon in Springdale.

The 21-and-over concert will start at 10 p.m. with DJ Lex getting the show started.

Though the band has made several appearances in northern Utah – particularly in Park City – Cracker co-founder David Lowery said this is the first time they have come to the southwest corner of Utah.

“We are excited to play at the bottom end of the state,” Lowery said.

Cracker is an internationally touring band whose style has been described as many things. The band got their start about 25 years ago and are most often labeled as an alternative rock band, but Lowery said their style is a bit more Americana and country rock, than it is alternative.

The band has released 10 studio albums, with their most recent effort, “Berkeley to Bakersfield,” released in December 2014.

Throughout their career, Cracker has performed thousands of shows around the world and had several hit singles and multiple gold records. Many of their hits are still in current radio rotation throughout the world, including songs such as “Low,” “Euro-Trash Girl,” “Get Off This” and “Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out With Me.”

“We are just an old road dog band that travels the world,” Lowery said.

The stopover in Utah is part of the band’s current tour heading west toward California. Previous to Saturday’s show in Springdale, Cracker will play Friday at Deer Valley Resort in Park City and then Sunday at the Brooklyn Bowl in Las Vegas. A full tour schedule can be found here.

Tickets to Saturday’s show are $20 at the door. The show will open at 10 p.m. with DJ Lex. This concert is for ages 21 and over only.
