SANTA CLARA – A broken water main at a new construction site in Santa Clara made a muddy mess at a few homes and left more without water Monday afternoon.
The Santa Clara Fire Department responded to the corner of River Front Drive and Vineyard Drive in the Santa Clara valley area of Santa Clara to aid in a water main break.
A contractor accidentally hit a 6-inch water main while excavating on a new home construction site, Fire Chief Dan Nelson said.
An engine was dispatched with the water key to shut off the water and assess the damage.
Water flooding from the break affected the yards of two homes, Nelson said. Further assessment was ongoing but at the time of this report no damage had been found inside any of the homes.
Water was shut off in the area and city crews were on site to repair the damage and restore water as soon as possible, Nelson said.
Santa Clara-Ivins police were on scene to direct traffic around the incident.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
