ST. GEORGE – The St. George Arts Commission is accepting grant applications under a new program funded by RAP tax funds.

The program is an effort by city officials to use RAP tax money in a unique way by trying to support St. George-based art groups, programs and activities as well as local artists and traditional ethnic traditions.

A total of $35,000 is available for the fiscal year 2016-2017; funds will be awarded monthly. The St. George Arts Commissions will review applications received on a monthly basis.

Because the program is a new focus for the city’s general arts grants, no person or group has received funding as of yet.

Applications are accepted each month no later than the second Thursday; the program runs through April 13, 2017. All general fund grant award funds must be spent by June 30, 2017.

The availability of funds will be contingent upon approval of the St. George City Council.

Guidelines and applications are available online. For more information, call 435-627-4510.

Completed applications can be mailed or delivered to St. George Arts Commission, care of Community Arts Division, 68 East Tabernacle Street, St. George, Utah 84770.

“So we passed this huge tax that has nothing to do with the proper role of government and it’s working so well we have too much FREE MONEY! Come and get your FREE MONEY! Calling all cousins, friends and cronies with anything that even resembles talent!”

Excellent. If this is what passes for LOCAL government, no wonder we’re $20 TRILLION in debt at the national level…
