Katherine Thiess Farnsworth, 77, passed away suddenly but peacefully next to her husband, Darwin H. Farnsworth at home Sunday morning, October 9, 2016. She was born January 27, 1939, in Las Vegas, Nevada to William H. and Hermese Abott Thiess. She married Darwin H. Farnsworth June 21, 1957. They were sealed for all time and eternity in the St. George Temple.

Katherine was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada and graduated from Las Vegas High School. Later in life she furthered her education by attending Clark County Community College and went on to work in a Dental Office. She enjoyed every moment of being a loving wife to her husband, Darwin, a mom to 3 children and a Nana to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved getting phone calls from her kids, grandkids, great-grandkids and close friends. The ultimate Nana, our phones will forever be silent.

She is survived by Darwin H. Farnsworth of La Verkin, Utah; children, Carol F. DeMille (Darwin) of Pocatello, Idaho, Mark W. Farnsworth (Julie) of New Sharon, Maine, Ross D. Farnsworth (Jane) of Lima, Peru; 13 grandchildren, Joshua P. Rieske (Brittany) of Pleasant Grove, Utah, Robert D. Rieske (Lisa) of Pocatello, Idaho, Katherine N. Rieske of Forks, Washington, Kenneth M. Rieske of Elmwood Park, New Jersey, Darin R. Rieske of Pocatello, Idaho, Brent E. Rieske of Pocatello, Idaho, Traci Klinker (Luke) of Waterville, Massachusetts, Tyler Farnsworth of Pittston, Massachusetts, katherine-farnsworth-youngerTara Whitney (Greg) of Ocean Side, California, Tessa Curry (Michael) of Portland, Oregon, Coryne Farnsworth of Salt Lake City, Utah, Audrey  Farnsworth of New York City, New York, Garrett Farnsworth in the Tokyo, Japan Mission and 6 great-grandchildren, Alexis, Madison, Scarlett, Jonas, Jameson and Thomas; 2 brothers, Kenn Thiess and Bob Thiess; 3 sisters, Barbara Despain, Debbie Geslison and Lori Hadlock.

Funeral Services

  • Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 15, at 11 a.m. at the LaVerkin Stake Center, 481 N. Main St., LaVerkin, Utah.
  • There will be a viewing Friday, Oct. 14, from 5-7 p.m. at the Spilsbury Hurricane Valley Mortuary, 25 N. 2000 West, Hurricane, and also prior to services Saturday, from 9:30-10:30 a.m., at the Stake Center.
  • Interment will take place in the Tonaquint Cemetery, St. George, Utah.
