WASHINGTON CITY — A young boy was transported to the hospital Friday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of 100 North and 200 East in Washington City.
At approximately 1:30 p.m., the boy was riding his bike westbound through the intersection after failing to stop at a stop sign, Washington City Police Public information Officer Ed Kantor said.
After running the stop sign, the young boy ran into the side of a vehicle that was traveling south on 200 East. Kantor said the young boy’s mother was on scene with him.
The boy sustained scratches and abrasions as a result of the collision, Kantor said, and was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George for evaluation.
At this point, Kantor said, no citations are expected to be issued.
“(He’s) lucky he wasn’t hurt worse,” Kantor said. “Bicyclists need to remember to stop at stop signs and watch for cross traffic same as motor vehicles. A lot of times, youngsters don’t do that.”
Washington City Police, Washington City Fire and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the scene.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
