CEDAR CITY – A 28-year-old Enoch man is facing a first-degree felony charge on suspicion of committing sodomy on a 5-year-old child.

Cedar City Police arrested John Clayton Hawkins Friday. He was booked into the Iron County Correctional Facility on $30,000 bail.

According to the charging documents the victim allegedly told a family friend about the incident with Hawkins, prompting police to bring her in for what they referred to as a forensic interview. Through the interview process authorities were able to identify where the child was touched and how, leading to the charges filed.

Hawkins admitted to the allegations during his own police interview Thursday, the documents state.

The incident allegedly occurred between Feb. 14 and March 1 while Hawkins was babysitting the victim in her home, according to the court records.

Hawkins is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on May 4.

Police declined to comment on the case due to its sensitive nature.

They have an accuser, and a confession from the guilty party.
They should just let this guy go on bail.
Seriously. Just let him walk out of the jail yard, but first let the family and other concerned citizens know his exact release time and location. Then have any on duty officers take an extended lunch break for a few hours, and let the public handle this guy.
I know if this had happened to my daughter, there wouldn’t be any kind of news article other than his missing persons report.
