CEDAR CITY — First responders transported one man to the hospital for multiple stab wounds Thursday night after a New Year’s Eve party went awry.
The victim is currently listed in serious condition while the 34-year-old suspect, Scott Baney, has since been charged with aggravated assault a second-degree felony and booked into the Iron County Correctional Facility.
Cedar City Police Department Sgt. Jimmy Roden said four individuals had been “partying” at the Value Inn Motel on 344 S. Main Street when Baney and the victim allegedly started fighting.
Two other individuals at the scene suffered minor injuries attempting to stop the alleged altercation, Roden said. They were not treated for those injuries.
When police arrived on scene, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Baney had reportedly left the motel grounds walking. Police located him moments later in a nearby parking lot adjacent to the motel, Roden said.
The motive behind the fight is still unknown at this time, but investigators believe alcohol consumption contributed to the incident, Roden said.
Any additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
