ST. GEORGE – A collision between a red Pontiac Sunfire and a gold Infiniti i30 on Sunset Boulevard in St. George Monday morning caused heavy damage to both vehicles. The driver of the Pontiac initially fled the scene, but returned a short time later.
The incident was initially reported as a hit-and-run collision at approximately 9:32 a.m., St. George Police Sgt. Sam Despain said.
The crash occurred at 1300 West Sunset Blvd., Despain said, when a woman driving a Pontiac was traveling east on Sunset, crossed traffic and attempted to make a left turn onto 1300 West and collided with an Infiniti also traveling west.
“Initially the red Pontiac Sunfire left the scene … and actually drove home,” Despain said. “We were able to track this vehicle down back to the residence. The driver stated that she thought that the other driver left and so she didn’t think she needed to stay.”
The driver of the Pontiac was issued a citation for leaving the scene of an accident and improper left-hand turn.
Airbags deployed on the Infiniti but not on the Pontiac. No injuries were reported as a result of the collision, Despain said.
The Infiniti was towed from the scene.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
Ed. note: While Despain refers to one of the vehicles in the video as a Maxima, the vehicle is actually an Infiniti.
