ST. GEORGE — An outstanding warrant led to an arrest of a man on several drug and weapons charges Thursday night.
A St. George Police officer was informed that 43-year-old Terry Lynn Rhea was in an apartment on 360 N. St. in St. George, according to the probable cause statement filed in support of the arrest. When the officer checked with dispatch regarding Rhea, it was found that he had a $10,000 warrant for his arrest. When officers arrived, they arrested Rhea on the outstanding warrant.
While Rhea was being searched by officers, they located a small plastic bag with suspected methamphetamine inside, along with more than $500 in cash and a digital scale, the statement said. Officers asked for consent to search Rhea’s room along with personal items, the statement said. Rhea denied the request, so officers procured and served a search warrant.
Two backpacks were discovered containing syringes suspected to contain heroin. Plastic baggies were found, the type that would be normally used to sell meth, according to the statement, and one baggie containing suspected methamphetamine. A large knife was also located.
Other items found were two oxycodone hydrochloride pills, a ball of suspected tar-like heroin, more baggies and more suspected methamphetamine. The statement said Rhea admitted selling methamphetamine and heroin during the night and the items found were intended for later sale.
Rhea remains in custody at the Washington County Purgatory Correctional Facility in Hurricane on the arrest warrant and was charged with two second-degree felonies for drug possession with intent to distribute misdemeanors related to a weapons offense for the large knife and drug paraphernalia. His bail was set at $22,000.
Rhea was scheduled to appear in 5th District Court Friday afternoon.
Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
