CEDAR CITY — The Cedar City Police Department announced Tuesday it is partnering with Subway restaurants to reward Cedar City youth for playing safe outdoors.

The Blodgett family, of Cedar City, were the first recipients of this year’s "Playin’ Safe" gift cards. The Blodgetts were caught by Cedar City Police officers while preparing for a bicycle ride at Cedar City’s Canyon Park. Each of the Blodgetts were practicing bicycle safety by wearing their bicycle helmets. Their safe act was rewarded by CCPD Officer Travis Carter, who issued each of the kids a Subway gift card. Through the “Playin’ Safe” program, Subway has presented the Police Department with gift cards that are redeemable for free 6-inch subway sandwiches at any Subway location in Utah.

“Officers will be patrolling the streets of Cedar City looking for youth who are practicing safe outdoor activities,” a press release from the Cedar City Police Department said.

Officers who see kids doing things like wearing helmets while riding bikes and skateboards, using crosswalks to cross the street, appropriately using playground equipment and practicing other safe play behaviors will reward the kids with Subway gift cards.

“We are excited to have this opportunity to reward our youth for making safe choices,” the press release said.
