Classic tale, free production, youth camp round out summer at Brigham’s Playhouse

WASHINGTON CITY – Brigham’s Playhouse in Washington City currently has two theatrical offerings underway to tempt theatergoers in from the heat and take them back in time to the old pioneer playhouse days of Southern Utah’s origins. Additionally, Brigham’s Playhouse is preparing for the final installation of its Summer Youth Theatre Camp.

Based on the beloved young adult classic by Lucy Maude Montgomery, “Anne of Green Gables” continues at Brigham’s Playhouse through July 11.

When bachelor brother Matthew Cuthbert and his spinster sister Marilla Cuthbert send off for an orphan boy to help them on their farm, misadventures ensue when not the hoped-for boy but a skinny, homely orphan girl arrives.

Follow literature’s favorite redhead as she experiences the joys and sorrows of life in Avonlea during this touching show.

“Anne of Green Gables” plays Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings at 7 p.m.

Also playing at Brigham’s Playhouse through July 25 is “Joseph Smith: Praise to the Man,” an original musical about the life of Joseph Smith, founding prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

This production is being offered free to the public, according to information from Brigham’s Playhouse, but donations are encouraged.
