ST. GEORGE — All are welcome as the Southern Utah Heritage Choir presents its annual Flag Day concert, “Let Freedom Ring” Sunday, 7 p.m. at the St. George Tabernacle.

In this stirring patriotic concert, the Heritage Choir will feature music that celebrates our country, our flag and our veterans. Nancy Allred and Ken Peterson will be directing the choir, with Karen Cantera, pianist and organist. Allred will also accompany many of the piano selections for this concert.

The choir will perform many audience favorites including “God Bless America,” “America the Beautiful,” “Prayer for Our Time” and “Battle Hymn of the Republic.” Fred Fagergren, bass soloist from the choir, will perform the poignant “Requiem for a Soldier” with the choir. The wonderful tribute, “Salute to the Armed Forces,” another audience favorite, will pay homage to all veterans who have valiantly served our country.

will sing the national anthem and “O, America!” in a fitting tribute to our country and freedom. A native of Orem, Kemp’s singing talent was first discovered by his grandmother when he was a toddler.

When he was 9 years old, Payton Kemp was cast as young Tarzan at Tuacahn Amphitheater. In that same year he was also cast as Admetus in “Cats.” The next year, he played Flounder in Tuacahn’s “The Little Mermaid.” In 2013, Kemp won “Dixie’s Got Talent” and was cast as the first live boy in Tuacahn’s “Starlight Express.” In 2014, he was cast as Flounder once again in Disney’s newly-written “The Little Mermaid.”

Kemp frequently volunteers his time and talents singing at church functions and other events.

The choir recently completed a successful performance tour to San Diego in May for the Mormon Battalion.

After a summer break, the choir’s next major performance will be September 18-19, in the Cox Auditorium at Dixie State University, St. George, as the choir and DSU music department sponsor the Southwest Choral Festival with renowned guest conductor Ronald Staheli.

Ed. correction:  Error in the day of the concert first stated as Saturday, corrected to Sunday. Date is correct.
