CEDAR CITY – Two additional suspects have been arrested in connection with the death of a Cedar City man who was shot Oct. 21 in an apparent homicide. One of the suspects has been identified as the victim’s stepdaughter.
Angelo Seth Carrasco, 34, was arrested the night the alleged homicide took place, identified by several eyewitnesses as the person who shot Shawn Leroy Multine, 45, at a home in the 575 North area of Cedar City. Carrasco was booked into the Iron County Jail on first-degree felony murder, aggravated assault and aggravated burglary charges in connection with the shooting.
Thursday night, officers additionally arrested Clarissa Bulletts, 18, and Eric Rodriguez, 29, following further investigation into the events surrounding Multine’s death.
“I’m just glad that justice has prevailed today and they caught more people that were involved in my brother’s murder,” Shana Multine, Shawn Multine’s sister, said in an interview Thursday.
In their ongoing investigation into the homicide, Cedar City Police officers determined that Bulletts drove Carrasco and Rodriguez to the neighborhood where the shooting took place, according to a press release from the Cedar City Police Department.
Bulletts is the stepdaughter of the shooting victim, Shawn Multine, and has also been identified by police as being a former girlfriend of the alleged shooter, Carrasco, according to the press release.
The night the shooting took place, Carrasco and Rodriguez made a concentrated effort to find Shawn Multine, first going to a Cedar City home where he was believed to be, according to the press release. Rodriguez entered the home and attempted to locate Shawn Multine and lure him outside to a place where Carrasco was allegedly waiting to shoot him with a high-powered rifle.
When their first effort to locate Shawn Multine failed, Bulletts allegedly contacted him in a second attempt to lure him to an area where Rodriguez and Carrasco were waiting. When this second attempt also failed, Carrasco and Rodriguez went to yet another home in the area, and Rodriguez stood in the driveway yelling for Shawn Multine to come out of the house. When Shawn Multine didn’t respond, Carrasco allegedly entered the home by force, assaulting a woman in the home and then shooting Shawn Multine.
Carrasco and Rodriguez fled the scene after the shooting took place, according to the press release. Rodriguez allegedly aided in disposing of the gun that was used in the shooting, and then Bulletts allegedly transported both men out of the area. According to the press release, Bulletts and Rodriguez were both interviewed in the days following the shooting, and each provided testimony that hindered or delayed the investigation.
Shana Multine said she doesn’t know the exact motivation that may have led Bulletts to aid in the shooting of her stepfather, but she said Shawn Multine and his wife, Bulletts’ mother, had a turbulent relationship and had been separated for about a month at the time of his death.
“I’m so glad they got them instead of them being out here and thinking they got away with murder,” Shana Multine said.
Funeral services for Shawn Multine took place Wednesday in Cedar City. Shana Multine said her brother’s wife would not allow any of his family members, including his mother, to see his body.
Shawn Multine’s immediate family members held a Native American sing, or mourning ceremony, in his honor on the Kaibab Paiute Reservation in Mohave County, Arizona.
“I know I could probably handle it better if he was sick and he passed on,” Shana Multine said, “but having him murdered – murdered, you know, someone taking his life just like that – it’s still a shock.”
Bulletts was booked into the Iron County Jail for murder II, a first-degree felony, and obstruction of justice, a second-degree felony. Rodriguez was booked into the Iron County Jail on murder, obstruction of justice and aggravated burglary charges.
