GUNLOCK – Emergency crews responded to Gunlock reservoir Monday afternoon where a teenage girl had fallen off a ledge and onto the rocks on the west side of the reservoir.
Around 3:10 p.m. park rangers with the Department of Natural Resources, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and medical crews responded to a report that “a woman” had fallen onto the rocks, from a ledge. When they arrived emergency responders found they needed boats to reach the girl.
“She was on the west side of the reservoir across from the campgrounds area,” Gunlock State Park Manager Laura Melling said. “The juvenile girl was at the lake with family and friends. Either she went to jump into the lake, and didn’t jump far enough; or she slipped while she was getting ready to jump.”
Officials could not release the exact age of the girl but placed her between 15 and 18 years old.
“She was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center for evaluation with non-life threatening injuries,” Melling said.
Officials remind everyone as they proceed to the lakes and state parks for summer recreation to use caution while you are having fun.
