St. George man faces drug distribution, other charges

ST. GEORGE — A St. George man was arrested for drug possession and possession of stolen property charges on Thursday after police made contact with him at the Maverik convenience store at 660 South River Road in St. George.

The St. George Police arrested Sean Edward Crites, 25, and charged him with third-degree felony receiving stolen property, class-A misdemeanor drug possession and second-degree felony drug possession. The drug possession charges were enhanced because the arrest occurred in a drug-free zone, within 1,000 feet of a school.

According to the probable cause statement filed in conjunction with the arrest, police responded to the Maverik store on a report of suspected drug activity. An officer was able to see a clear bottle with several pills in it located between the two front seats in the truck that Crites was driving.

Police identified three of the pills as controlled prescription pills, two were identified as suboxone, a schedule-four drug and one pill was methadone, a schedule-two drug. Crites told police the drugs belonged to a neighbor, according to the statement.

Police also found stolen motorcycle parts in the bed and cab of the truck which were valued over $1,500, the statement said.

After Crites was booked into jail, he was charged with second-degree felony drug distribution. According to the probable cause statement in that case, Crites is accused of selling methamphetamine to an undercover confidential informant within the past 90 days, police Capt. Kyle Whitehead said.

Crites was booked into Washington County’s Purgatory Correctional Facility and his bail at the time of booking for all charges was set at $31,943.

Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
