Soccer roundup: Panthers pound in 3 goals in road win at Desert Hills

ST. GEORGE — Pine View scored a pair of second-half goals and survived a windy and cold night at Desert Hills to grab a 3-1 road win in Region 9 soccer action Tuesday night.

Pine-view-smDesert-Hills-smMichael Wade scored his second and third goals of the season in leading the Panthers to the road win. Pine View broke the game open after clinging to a 1-0 halftime lead. Daniel Arellano also scored his third goal of the year for the Panthers and the goalkeeping of Justin Jones helped keep the Thunder to a single tally in the game.

Pine View, which finished just one game (three points) behind the region-champion Thunder a year ago, improved to 4-0-1 overall and 1-0-1 in region play this season, good enough for first place, a point ahead of Snow Canyon, Hurricane and Cedar.

Desert Hills, which got its lone goal in the game from Tanner Browning, fell to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in region. Browning has two of DH’s nine team goals this year.

Cedar 2, Dixie 1 (OT)

Two long halves only produced a goal each for the two teams in regulation time, but in overtime, Cedar needed less than 20 seconds to blast the game-winner between the posts.

cedar-smdixie-smMichael Briano scored 18 seconds into OT and Cedar won on the road to improve to 1-0-0 in region play. It was Briano’s third goal of the season. Brock Shipp was the lone scorer in regulation for the Redmen, his sixth goal of the year as Cedar is now 4-1-0 overall and just a point behind region leader PV.

Dixie, 3-1-1 overall and 0-1-1 in region, got a goal from Alex Green, his third of the year.

Hurricane 5, Canyon View 0

The Tigers scored early and often in routing the Falcons on the road Tuesday night in Iron County.

hurricane-smcanyon-view-smHurricane, which led 2-0 at the half, got goals from Noah Elison, Ethan Stratton, JD Stanworth, Kaden Jackson and Max Gutierrez. Stratton is one of the top goal scorers in the state with seven on the season. Hurricane improved to 4-0-1 overall and 1-0-0 in region this season, one point behind Pine View for first place.

Canyon View fell to 2-3-0 overall and 0-1-0 in region.
