ST. GEORGE – Have you ever wanted to play the dastardly villain or a damsel in distress? The City of St. George will be holding auditions for its summer melodrama production. If you love to act come out and join the cast where people love to hoot, holler and hiss.
Melodramas are high-energy comedies intermixed with “olios” of song, dance and comedy revues.
Actor and singer audtions
The city’s Community Arts Division is looking for strong actors and singers who can move.
Auditions will be held May 29 from 7-9 p.m. at the St. George Opera House, 47 East 200 North. Those unavailable to audition on May 29 may call for an appointment to audition at another time (contact information at the close of this article).
To audition, prepare a short comic monologue. If you have singing talent as well, be prepared to share a musical number (16 bars only). The entire audition may not exceed 3 minutes.
If singing, an accompanist will be provided if needed so those auditioning are asked to have clean, readable sheet music for their songs. Equipment to play a CD or other audio accompaniment will also be on hand.
Those auditioning are required to bring a headshot and resumé as well.
The performances
Performance dates will be on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays beginning the first week of July with the premiere performance on the 4th of July. The season will run through August 3.
