‘FIRST’ Lego League robotics competition qualifier comes to St. George

ST. GEORGE – A Lego League robotics building competition will hold its regional qualifier event for students ages 9-14 in St. George on Jan. 12, and the  public is invited to view part of the competition.

For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, also known as “FIRST,”  Lego League  is an exciting, fun global robotics and innovation program that ignites an enthusiasm for discovery, science, teamwork and technology in kids.

The league is a partnership between the University of Utah and its office of Technology Venture Development and FIRST Lego League. Elementary and middle school students will have the opportunity to solve real-world challenges by building LEGO-based robots to complete tasks on a thematic playing surface. The FIRST Lego League teams, which will be guided by their imaginations and adult coaches, will discover exciting career possibilities and learn to make positive contributions to society.

The FIRST Lego League regional qualifier event will be held at Sunrise Ridge Intermediate School located at 3167 S. 2350 E. in St. George, Utah.

The event will be a daylong event but will be open to the public between noon and 1:10 p.m.
