SALT LAKE CITY – The Office of Energy Development, host of the Governor’s Energy Development Summit, announced with pleasure the keynote speakers and panelists confirmed to join Gov. Gary R. Herbert and an expected 1,200 summit attendees on Jan. 10 at the Salt Palace Convention Center.
Ronald W. Jibson, CEO of Questar and chairman of the American Gas Association, will offer opening remarks during the breakfast plenary. In Jibson’s capacity as chairman, he represents over 200 natural gas companies (including Questar) that deliver clean natural gas to over 65 million households and businesses throughout the United States.
James D. Ogsbury, the newly appointed executive director of the Western Governors’ Association, will deliver a welcoming address titled “Shades of Energy: The West Leading America into Electrifying New Territory” following Jibson’s remarks.
The Office of Energy Development stated in its release that it is excited to welcome these notable regional leaders, who its representatives believe will set the tone for this important two-day event.
During the luncheon plenary, attendees will be joined by Sens. Orrin Hatch and Mike Lee, Reps. Jim Matheson, Rob Bishop and Chris Stewart. These esteemed members of Utah’s federal delegation will answer a variety of questions relating to energy’s place in the state economy, the value of energy independence, the environmental impacts associated with energy development and other issues critical to the energy sector of the Intermountain West.
Interested parties are encouraged to submit relevant questions to [email protected], and the Office of Energy Development will select from among those submitted to help guide either the discussion with Utah’s congressional delegates or the most appropriate breakout session.
With the help of this impressive slate of speakers and attendees, the Governor’s Energy Development Summit promises to be a critical energy forum in the Intermountain West. It is an opportunity to not only examine key issues in the ever-changing energy sector, but to better understand the significant value energy adds to Utah’s world-class economy. According to the Governor’s release on the summit, this conversation will help position the state for an exciting energy future that embraces a diversity of resources and proceeds with a dual focus on responsible practices and economic growth.
The summit will take place on Jan. 10 and 11. Those interested in attending are encouraged to visit the Office of Energy Development website to register for either or both days.

I will be attending the energy summit on Jan. 10, and 11. I would like to see our State apply more solar thermal in there energy plans. Heating water with the sun makes alot of sense. It is also affordible.
