Dixie destroys Canyon View for third region win

CEDAR CITY — Dixie ousted Canyon View 54-13 for its third region win of the year.

Quarterback Blake Barney walked off the field with 289 passing yards, five touchdowns, 133 rushing yards and a single rushing touchdown.

The match was lopsided from the beginning. The Falcons couldn’t score and the Flyers couldn’t miss.

With four minutes left in the first quarter, and with a 14-0 Dixie lead, Tanner Webster took a pass from quarterback Blake Barney and burned Canyon View’s defense for an 80-yard gain. Webster easily scored on the next play.

After a quick Canyon View three and out early in the second quarter, Barney connected with Andy Appel for another quick score.

The Flyer defense then stepped up and forced another Falcon punt that resulted in another Dixie touchdown after a very brief drive.

By halftime the scoreboard read 48-0, much to the dismay of the home crowd.

Barney rushed for a 45-yard touchdown of his own in the third quarter.

The Falcons Koy Huxford and Tevan Vasi each managed to score in the fourth quarter – the lone bright spot in the spectacular loss.

The Flyers had 527 yards of offense and allowed CV just 183. Dixie, which is now 6-1 overall and 3-1 in region play, got two TD catches apiece from Webster and Drew Batchelor.

Dixie will next square off against Cedar on its home field next Friday. The Falcons, 1-5 and 0-3, has lost five in a row. Cv plays at home vs. Pine View next Friday night.
