WASHINGTON – Enjoy a round of golf and support a worthy cause at the fourth annual Matt Cooper Golf Classic this Friday.
Held at the Coral Canyon Golf Course, the tournament will kick off with a shotgun start at 3 p.m. Players can register as an individual or with a team and have the chance to win a variety of prizes, including a $250 gift certificate to Uintah Golf and even a golf cart.
The tournament was organized by Ken Cooper of Washington, whose 6-year-old son sustained injuries during his birth that limited his speaking and walking abilities. With the assistance of intense physical therapy and a computerized speaking device, Matt Cooper was able to enter kindergarten this school year and continues to progress. It is only through the profits of this tournament that he is able to receive treatment.
Matt Cooper’s predicament has drawn a great deal of support from the community. Over 15 local businesses, among them SkyWest Airlines, Russo’s Pizza and Beddo Golf, have helped sponsor this year’s event.
“For the past three years, individuals and businesses alike have been very generous to help us take Matt to therapy, (which has) made all the difference in the world to (him,)” Ken Cooper said. “It has been amazing.”
