WASHINGTON COUNTY – Utah House of Representatives candidate Brent Holloway announced Sunday that U.S. Rep. Jim Matheson officially endorsed his campaign to represent Utah House District 62 in the Utah Legislature. The new district covers most of Washington City and a large section of the eastern part of the City of St. George.
“When I first met Brent,” Matheson said, “I was impressed with his willingness to focus on the issues facing Utah and not get caught up in bitter partisan politics. Like me, Brent is interested in building bridges and finding solutions to problems facing the people of our state. In particular, his commitment to public schools makes him an outstanding candidate for the Utah House.”
Holloway said in response, “I would like to restore the politics of Utah to the unique place I remember growing up, when we really did have a two-party system; back when Democratic governors like Cal Rampton and Scott Matheson worked right alongside a Republican Legislature without the divisiveness of today’s political climate.
“And Jim himself has set a great example for me to follow,” Holloway continued. “As I’ve been out meeting with folks in my district, the number of people who admire Jim is phenomenal. He’s done a lot for Southern Utah. Republicans and Democrats alike appreciate his efforts very much.
“Having Jim’s endorsement means a lot to me,” Holloway said. “Both Jim and his dad, the late Governor Scott Matheson, have been especially recognized for working with any person from any party on any issue. It is quite an honor to have the Matheson name associated with my campaign and I will do my best to follow in their footsteps.”
