ST. GEORGE –  Dixie State College’s weekly noontime Dixie Forum: A Window on the World convocation series will feature a discussion on America’s unyielding commitment to “keeping faith” with its POW/MIAs, as presented by retired United States Navy Capt. Ron Lewis on Tuesday, Sept. 25. The Forum will begin at 12 p.m. in the Dunford Auditorium of the Browning Resource Center on the DSC campus.

Admission is free for all community members, DSC students, and faculty and staff.

Lewis’ presentation, entitled “Keeping America’s Promise,” coincides with National POW/MIA Recognition Day, which was observed on Friday. He will share personal accounts and excerpts from his 2007 essay titled “Shipmates Forever,” which provides insight as to how and why he has become deeply involved in public outreach and awareness of the nation’s commitment to keep the faith and promise to bring America’s unaccounted-for military men and women lost in combat home with honor. He notes the government’s DPMO/JPAC currently identifies, on average, six individuals a month, and has provided more than 1,500“homecomings in the past 10 years.

Lewis retired from Naval Service honorably in 1991 after 27 years of service to his country. He entered Navy flight training in 1964, and served an 11-month deployment to Vietnam, before being assigned to the Naval Air Station in Atsugi, Japan. While there he served with the Helicopter Combat Support Squadron, for which he completed four additional Vietnam deployments. Lewis also served as a flight instructor, command duty officer, commanding officer, operations officer and executive officer during his naval career.

Along the way Lewis also completed work on a bachelor’s degree in Marketing at the University of West Florida in 1971. He and his wife, Jacqueline Lewis, now live in New Harmony, Utah.

The weekly Dixie Forum series will continue its 2012 Fall Semester slate on Tuesday, Oct. 2, with the first of a new “Great Faiths” series of discussions, featuring a presentation on Hinduism by Dr. Satish C. Bhatnagar.
