MESQUITE, Nev. – As a thank you to local Veterans, artist Tammy Nielsen-Symons spent Friday, July 13, drawing free pastel portraits for local veterans who visited the Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery.  She is making the same offer to the first six Vets who visit the Gallery on July 20 and July 27.

The portraits are done on a first come, first served basis for the next two Fridays.  Six vets will be provided a numbered ticket as they arrive, and can either stay for their portrait sitting, or have a photo taken and return later to receive their pastel portrait. The Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery is located at 15 West Mesquite Blvd, Mesquite, Nev., and is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Tammy, a resident of Moapa Valley and member of Virgin Valley Artists Association, made the same offer to Moapa Valley Vets last year.  She enjoys doing these portraits to show her gratitude to those who have given so much for their country.

It’s hard to respect this type of art anymore when you can just take some digital photos and modify them in Photoshop to make them look like they were painted by masters. It’s so easy.
