Intermountain Active Aging offers ‘Balance and Dizziness’ lecture

ST. GEORGE – Intermountain Healthcare’s Active Aging lecture series focuses on balance and dizziness with balance specialist, Scott Gillespie, as guest speaker on April 27 at 10 a.m.  This free event takes place at the Foremaster Auditorium located at 1424 Foremaster Drive and is open to the public.

Many factors contribute to impaired balance increasing with age such as visual disturbances, poor reaction time, skeletal muscle weakness and dizziness.  The four best types of exercise to combat falls include:  strength exercises, which build muscles and keeps weight in check; stretching activities which give more freedom of movement; endurance activities, which increase heart rate for an extended period of time (walking, swimming, or even raking leaves); and balance exercises, which build leg muscles specifically and can dramatically reduce falls.  The National Institute of Health reports that hospitals have 300,000 admissions for broken hips, many of them older adults, as a result of falling.

Gillespie said he measures success by, “helping our patients gain greater confidence in their stability and balance and in preventing the incidence of falls.”

Learn how to live stronger, longer and in balance – it can save your life.

I hope the lecture involves BPPV (benign positional proximal vertigo). It is a condition that I commonly see in my chiropractic office in St George. It is most commonly seen after whiplash or head trauma. The treatment of simple, painless and very effective.

I treat vertigo and dizziness from BPPV at my office and if you are looking for a someone with years of experience with Eply Maneuvers, send them to Innova Pain Clinic here in St George.
