Veterans job fair: Educating and honoring those who serve

ST. GEORGE – The inaugural employment and benefits fair comes to the Dixie Convention Center, 1835 Convention Center Drive, on Jan. 28 from 4:30 p.m. top 8 p.m.

The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, or ESGR, is one of the main sponsors of the job fair.

“[This event will be] the first of its kind,” said Kim Watts, executive director for the Utah Committee for the employer support of the guard and reserve. “There have been veteran benefit fairs in the past for several consecutive years, but this will be the first veteran’s employment event that we know of.”

Watts also said the unemployment rate for soldiers returning from deployment is approximately 25 percent, which leaves many of our local soldiers currently out of a job.

“The intent is to have employers in the Southern Utah area who have vacancies attend the job fair,” Watts said. “[The event] is to help unemployed members of the 222nd make connections that will end up with some kind of employment.”

Entrance to the job fair is free to the public and is set aside for military veterans and their spouses.

Organizers of the event encourage any local employers to visit bit.ly/sdFbAI and register to reserve a table at this year’s job fair.
