UPDATE:  8:40 p.m.  Fire Information Officer Kenton Call advises that the Arizona Department of Public safety now counts 10 separate fires burning, all lightning caused.  Names for the seven in addition to the three previously identified in this article are not yet available.  Interstate 15 traffic is not impeded at this time.  Further updates expected around 10:30 p.m.

ARIZONA STRIP – Three fires have broken out this afternoon in the Arizona Strip area, all three lightning caused.  Aerial support is already well in play in the battle to fight these fires through the Color Country Interagency Fire teams, said Kenton Call, Fire Information Officer.

All three are in the area known as the Parashant Wilderness region, just southwest of St. George.  “It’s pretty rugged terrain,” said Call, and the fire managers are ordering up resources now to assist in what has initially been primarily aerial in the firefight.

The fires are:  The Plateau Fire, assessed at 300 acres; the Sun Rock Fire, which is very small and no acreage has yet been assessed; and the Lime Kiln Fire, assessed at 120 acres.

No structures are threatened and no road closures identified at this time.
