ST. GEORGE – A 25-year-old man was arrested yesterday after allegedly providing heroin to an adult female who was taken to the hospital.

Officer Johnny Heppler said police were called to a local motel after the female had an adverse reaction after ingesting heroin. She was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center.

Officers received a search warrant for the motel room and located heroin, cocaine, marijuana, prescription pills, and drug paraphernalia, he said.

Heppler said the man, whose address is listed as “transient,” was arrested and booked into jail on the following charges: two counts of distribution of heroin, (one for providing the female with the drug and the other for the distributable quantity of packaged heroin), possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and two counts of possession of a scheduled drug.

Detective Dave Moss with the Washington County Area Task Force said the suspect was arrested in St. George on March 15 on distribution charges, as well. He said the man is from St. George, but told police he was living in the motel.

Moss said the woman who overdosed has not been charged at this time because she was not in possession of drugs when police arrived, and witnesses at the motel reported the drugs belonged to the suspect.
