Flood update: City asks residents to remove items from basements

WASHINGTON COUNTY – Reports came in this morning from an official with the fire department that Gunlock busted, however Marc Mortensen with the city of St. George said the Gunlock Dam has only spilled over, much like it did during the flood several years ago.

Mortensen said residents in the Bloomington area are being asked to remove items from their basement, however no one is being asked to evacuate. Homes near the Santa Clara River are also being asked to remove items from their basement.

Anyone wanting to volunteer should go to the St. George City Office building, 175 E 200 N. Volunteers are asked to fill sandbags.

S.R. 9 in Zion is currently closed due to flooding. SR-14 is closed from Cedar City to Long Valley Junction due to hazardous weather and power outages. SR-143 is closed from Brian Head to Mammoth Creek Road due to weather.
